Celebrating the food industry with #RestaurantWeek – get involved!

Following the highly successful #MuseumWeek back in March, on Tuesday 6th May @TwitterUK announced that it is inviting restaurants across the UK and Ireland to sign up an exciting new initiative in June: #RestaurantWeek.

Taking place from 2nd – 8th June, the week-long social media campaign will focus on celebrating the industry and its offerings throughout the UK and Ireland, helping restaurant owners to connect with their local communities, showcase their menus, profile their staff and bring new customers through the door.

Supported by the British Hospitality Association, OpenTable and the Restaurants Association of Ireland, restaurants will be able to take part in #RestaurantWeek by signing up and tweeting with a different hashtag each day (to be revealed), giving customers a peek behind the kitchen door sand into the day-to-day running of a restaurant. Each hashtag will be specific to a different aspect of the industry; participating businesses can join in with as few or as many as they like.

According to the British Hospitality Association, more than 8 billion meals are sold in the UK each year, with over 20 million meals eaten out every day, making it a huge part of our daily lives, culture and economy. This campaign is a fantastic way for establishments both the UK and Ireland to shout out their offerings and really spread the word of food and dining through the powers of social media.

We’re spoilt for choice for eateries, restaurant and food places in Manchester so I’m especially keen for establishments in the city to sign up – if you know of any, please pass on the word and get them involved. I’d love to know of any that will be taking part in #RestaurantWeek so please tweet me @SpamellaB and let me know!
