Say Hello to Nush Almond Yogurts

For those of you who love thick, creamy yogurt but avoiding dairy and soya, I have some news for you… Let me introduce Nush, launching the UK’s first range of nut-milk yogurts.

Their mission statement is simple:

Nush was born out of a passion to produce the finest quality, ethical dairy free products that taste great and destroy the myth that dairy free has to be bland and boring.

Made by blending the best quality avola almonds from Sicily with filtered water and vegan probiotic cultures and produced using artisan methods on premises in South England made with almond milk, the result is a light, creamy yogurt with a delicate and delicious flavour that can be enjoyed just as you would with traditional dairy yogurt. Each pot is vegan, all-natural, high in protein and free from dairy, lactose, gluten, soya, preservatives, additives and refined sugar.

In case you didn’t know, almonds are a nutritional powerhouse and have the highest concentration of nutrients per gram than any other nut. They are low in saturated fat and are a natural source of hunger-satisfying protein, the powerful antioxidant and complexion boosting Vitamin E and potassium, calcium, magnesium, phosphorous, and iron.

Nush: My verdict

As a yogurt lover myself, I couldn’t wait to try the Nush yogurt range, available in four flavours:

  • Natural (Almond Milk (95%) (Almonds, Filtered water) Tapioca starch, Pectin, Inulin, Live Vegan Cultures)
  • Peach Melba (Almond Milk (95%) (Almonds, Filtered water) Tapioca starch, Pectin, Inulin, Live Vegan Cultures)
  • Blueberry (Live Almond Milk yoghurt (85%) almond milk (Almonds, Filtered water) Tapioca starch, Carob gum, Live Vegan Cultures, Blueberry puree (15%) (blueberries, fruit extract)
  • Caramel & Hibiscus (Live Almond Milk yoghurt (80%) Almond milk (Almonds, Filtered water) Tapioca starch, Live Vegan Cultures, Carob gum, Fruit Extracts, Caramel and Hibiscus (20%) (Coconut sugar, coconut milk and hibiscus)

So what did I think? The Natural variety is neutral in terms of flavour, making it a great option for savoury dishes and dips. Both the Peach Melba and Blueberry pots are light and fruity with just the right hint of sweetness without being overpowering, while the Caramel Hibiscus one was my favourite, an unusual combination that worked so well as more indulgent option.

They made a nice addition to serve on top of porridge or overnight oats for breakfast, with a fruit crumble for dessert and also used in baking – but just as satisfying and enjoyable eaten by themselves as a snack.

I’ll definitely be looking out for these in the future – although I love 0% fat Greek yogurt I really enjoyed the nutty flavour of Nush yogurts and the fact that they don’t contain refined sugars or other nasties usually found in other yogurts on the market.
